Why felt?
Felt is a balm for our stressed ears and eyes. The inseparably connected fibers help to absorb and neutralize excessive sound waves. This dampens the noise level inside a vehicle and prevents the transmission of unwanted external noises. Felt not only reduces the noise level but also provides a slight insulation effect against the cold. However, the most important point for our customers is the coziness that a vehicle interior optimized with felt brings.
Is felt suitable for my project?
Our felts transform even the most dreary transporter, every boat, and all other DIY projects of our customers
into a place where one wants to stay.
How do I best process the felt?
Nothing is easier than the covering / masking / beautification of the vehicle interior with our felts
- After thoroughly cleaning the area to be adhered with IPA cleaner or brake cleaner, you can get started immediately. Any adhesive residues can be easily removed with an adhesive residue remover like Industry Clean from Würth. IMPORTANT: Clean again with a degreasing cleaner afterwards, as logically no new adhesive will hold on adhesive remover. 😉
- Measure the required amount and cut a corresponding piece from the roll with a little extra.
- Remove the carrier film from one side and initially press the felt at the corresponding location. Then gradually adhere the felt, pulling off the carrier film accordingly. In curves , work with plenty of tension and creases can also be pulled out with tension.Until the final pressing of the felt, it is still adjustable by peeling it off and reapplying it.
- Remove excess felt with a sharp carpet knife.
- Spread the final result once more.
DONE!
Why self-adhesive felt?
You don't apply glue to your stickers before sticking them on, do you?!
Our self-adhesive felt is perfect for the interior design of your vehicles or boats.
- No additional spray adhesive
- No sanding of the vehicle paint
- No masking of windows, furniture, or similar beforehand necessary
- No glue on your fingers
- No additional cleaning of the surroundings after felting
Our felts are extremely strong in adhesion after final assembly, very flexible, and therefore also perfectly suitable for all 3D applications.
In addition, our felts are extra durable and do not form unsightly pilling after a short time like most felts from other manufacturers.
Furthermore, all our felts are perfectly suitable for creating invisible butt joints between two felt sheets.
How stretchy is the felt?
Our PREMIUM FELT is easy to work with, lightly stretchable, and conforms well. It adheres excellently to edges and curves.
For an even easier implementation of your project or if you have never felted before, we recommend our CARPET FELT. This has an even higher stretchability and is therefore perfectly suited for lining, covering, and draping all 3D challenges, such as wheel arches.
Self-adhesive is nice and all, but does the felt hold up in extreme temperatures?
Our adhesive is temperature resistant from -30 to at least +100 degrees Celsius – so the felt won't come off the walls even if you spend a long time in the warmth! Even a car roof doesn't heat up that much. Additional insulation of the vehicle further alleviates the situation.
Does the felt also adhere to insulation materials like Vanue or Armaflex?
Yes, it holds very well. Of course, it's best when the insulation is not old and crumbly. 😉
Does the felt also adhere to fabric/original fabric upholstery/headliner fabric?
This cannot be answered so generally. The felt adheres best to smooth, dust-free surfaces that have been degreased beforehand. Therefore, it can generally be said that the felt holds as well as the substrate allows. It is best to test with one of our samples in advance.
Many customers have already felted their cabins and report that it holds very well.
How do I prepare the surface?
This goes super fast: remove old adhesive residues, dust the surface & degrease and start felting!
IMPORTANT: If you use an adhesive remover like Industry-Clean, make sure to clean again with a degreasing cleaner afterwards, as logically no new adhesive will hold on adhesive remover. 😉
Can I also process the felt at low temperatures?
The colder it is, the better you need to warm up the felt and the surface to be adhered beforehand. At temperatures in the single digits, you should consider whether you can heat your van – this way, your fingers won't freeze, and the felt will hold much better!
How do I best clean the felt?
The easiest way is to avoid letting the dirt dry, but to wipe it off immediately with a damp cloth and some soap/dishwashing liquid.
Is the felt colorfast?
Yes, the felt is colorfast. It withstands sunlight very well.
How do I best store the felt?
You don't use everything right away? No problem. It stays beautiful the longest when it is frost-resistant and kept dry. It can remain rolled up, but it should be stored upright.
Is the felt odor-neutral and suitable for allergy sufferers?
Our felt and the adhesive are completely odorless. You won't experience any biting or unpleasant smells, as can occur with spray adhesives, when using our felt. A customer who is allergic to even the slightest chemical odors was able to upholster her car without any issues using our felt.
Only the Fantasia felt may have a slight smell due to the printing ink shortly after unpacking, but the odor dissipates on its own in a very short time (a few minutes to a few hours)!
Can I remove the felt again?
Yes, that is easily possible.
You pull the felt off with some force. It should come off in one piece. Since the felt is designed to last a long time, it may require some effort. Any adhesive residues can be removed with an adhesive residue remover like Industry Clean by Würth .
Be careful if you want to stick something on again after using Industry Clean: Make sure to degrease first! No adhesive will hold on an adhesive remover. 😉
Why do I need extra blades? Aren't the cheap ones from the hardware store sufficient?
Yes, it may be tempting to choose cheap blades, but no, believe us, we did not search for very good blades without reason. It is much more enjoyable and requires much less effort when you invest money in good snap-off blades. Not to mention that the cut edges and thus the final result only look clean with a consistently sharp blade.
Don't say later that we didn't tell you 😉
